Châtel is a charming alpine ski resort located on the France-Swiss border in the heart of the Portes du Soleil area. It is one of the few ski resorts that have remained completely unspoiled, retaining its character as a working farming community with authentic mountain chalets.
In 2018, the municipality of Châtel introduced a cultural sponsorship initiative to fund the acquisition of a PACCARD Ars Sonora®. The 26-bell Ars Sonora “Frontière” was designed by artist Jean-Marc Bonnard. The village celebrated the dedication of this grand musical sculpture with great enthusiasm. Situated in the heart of the village, and opening onto a magnificent panorama of the Abondance Valley, the Frontière is part of the visual and aural landscape of the village and will enrich village life for decades to come. The sculpture consists of two groups facing each other, each made up of four tubular and conical elements that undulate, resembling the rays of the sun. These elements are connected by two curved, overlapping tubes that create both a bridge and a doorway when positioned to face each other.
